When it comes to safety, trips, slips, and falls account for a huge percentage of hospital visits annually. As a result, we dedicate a great deal of time on the subject (as well as many other safety protocols).

Whether you’re standing on the second rung of an A-frame ladder or near the top of an extension ladder, you face potential fall hazards which could result in severe injury or death.

Falls are a leading cause of injuries in the HVAC industry, according to Electrical Contractor Magazine.

Take a look at the statistics: 43% of ladder accidents involve falls from height. 25% of injuries are caused by ladders slipping or tipping. 20% of injuries involve electrical shocks when working near power lines. 15% of injuries are linked to improper footwear.

What dreams did you NOT act upon or make excuses to hold off doing? Using a “gosh darn it or, I ‘have other things going on in life” excuse is an easy excuse and a simple way to justify… but remember Change takes Action.

I remember my father telling me: “If things don’t change, things won’t change.” At the time these few words did not impact my life… many years later, the scope of his wisdom resounds beyond significance.

Here, at HVACTA, today is the beginning of ACTION for an eager and committed group. I am totally excited to be a part of change AND action for the group looking to enter the HVAC industry. I encourage you to keep on the lookout at each participants journey over the next six weeks… who knows, maybe their dedication to success will be an inspiration for many.

Now is the Time for YOU to Take ACTION

Take ACTION

Take ACTION

Dreams without action are simply that, dreams… Think about this for a moment. What dreams did you NOT act upon or make excuses to hold off doing? Using a “gosh darn it or, I ‘have other things going on in life” excuse is an easy excuse and a simple way to justify… but remember Change takes Action.

In other words, if you want change, doing the same thing and using excuses will not bring about rewards… just saying.

Think about the past year, how many times did you delay and allow complacency to guide your actions (or lack of action)? Fast forward another twelve months from now and look at your personal “gosh darn it” inventory. What do you think you will see?

So, I ask: What are you doing NOW to prepare for change?

For those seeking a career change or progression, act now by checking out programs and consider advanced field certifications, no matter the industry or your interests… just take the step… one at a time.

Success does not just happen.
Success takes ACTION.
NOW is the time for YOU to take ACTION.

On a personal note, I believe 2026 is going to be an awesome dream-making year for those committed to make 2026 awesome.

No doubt my father was right on point: If things don’t change, things won’t change.

Recognizing the ability to perform preventive maintenances are a fundamental skill HVAC technicians must excel at, all participants are required to conduct a multitude of PMs on a multitude of systems.

HVACTA: PM Perfection

HVACTA: PM Perfection

HVACTA: PM Perfection

In HVAC, PM stands for Preventive Maintenance (or Planned Preventive Maintenance – PPM), which involves regular, scheduled inspections, tune-ups, and cleaning of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to ensure they run efficiently, prevent costly breakdowns, extend equipment life, and improve indoor air quality, much like an oil change for a car.

For those not sold on the idea of having a recognized HVAC professional perform a PM for you, here’s a few benefits of getting an HVAC PM on a regular basis:

* Lower Energy Bills: Efficient systems use less energy.
* Fewer Breakdowns: Catching small issues early prevents major failures.
* Extended Lifespan: Regular care keeps equipment running longer.
* Better Air Quality: Clean filters and systems improve indoor air.
* Cost Savings: Prevents expensive emergency repairs and downtime.

Today has been brought to you by the letters P and M.

HVAC Technical Academy is about your personal and professional growth… and when it comes to the HVAC industry, we are pretty awesome.

If you enjoy daily challenges, working with your hands, and never a dull moment, the HVAC industry may be a good fit for you and HVAC Technical Academy can help you get there quickly, we are talking six weeks.

HVAC Technical Academy brings participants to an HVAC reality few workshops can offer. Partnering with Tropical Air of Central Florida, hands-on and vicarious experience becomes a reality… daily.

In the middle of the fourth week and three complete system swaps, participants progress their knowledge, skills, and abilities to include diagnostics, troubleshooting, preventive maintenances, recover, and so much more.

HVACTA: A day in the life

HVACTA: A day in the life

HVACTA: A day in the life

Though each HVAC company varies based upon daily needs and if projects are residential or commercial, here’s a quick overview:

Wearing lots of hats, an HVAC technician’s day is dynamic, involving early starts, vehicle prep, and a varied schedule of residential/commercial calls for installation, maintenance, or emergency repairs, blending hands-on mechanical/electrical work in diverse locations like attics, rooftops, and new construction sites, requiring problem-solving and customer interaction to keep systems running efficiently.

The HVAC industry offers a rewarding lifelong career, but it requires work… truth is, being in the HVAC industry can be quite challenging. After all, you will be working in all sorts of conditions, including confined spaces, difficult weather, and working closely with residents. Not trying to scare anyone off, just keeping it real.

Are you up to a six-week challenge? If you enjoy daily challenges, working with your hands, and never a dull moment, the HVAC industry may be a good fit for you and HVAC Technical Academy can help you get there quickly, we are talking six weeks.

TruTech Tools and the people within their organization have been an active partner with 2nd Chance University for several years – it is an honor to be part of their family.

2nd Chance University is a nonprofit dedicated to mentoring individuals committed to personal and professional progress. Many individuals entering our HVAC program (supported by HVAC Technical Academy) are justice-involved, often needing a way out of a not-so good cycle. This is where Tru Tech Tools and HVAC Technical Academy come into action!

2CU and TruTech Tools

Driven to help the disenfranchised and/or those transitioning out of incarceration, TruTech Tools (and the folks within their nationally recognized and respected organization) support by contributing top of the line tools and equipment for all HVAC professionals in the field.

Today our group worked with HVAC manifold gauge sets provided by TruTech. For those not in the know: HVAC manifold gauge sets are diagnostic tools used to measure pressure and temperature in refrigeration and air conditioning systems.

Much like a medical doctor would be limited without the use of a stethoscope, without a proper manifold gauge set (and training), so would an HVAC technician. Afterall, digital gauges offer high accuracy, automatic calculations (like superheat and subcooling), and data logging features, making them ideal for modern and commercial systems where precision is critical.

By the way, participants receive in-the-box brand new tools (like a digital manifold gauge set) to work on during the six week, 210 hour, HVAC workshop and, on the last day, all tools are theirs to keep which makes their transition into the workplace a positive one.

With professional quality products, a caring customer service, and commitment to deliver nothing but the very best to individuals, organizations, and our community, it is an honor to have TruTech tools on our side.

With appreciation, thank you TruTech Tools for being part of our nonprofit, 2nd Chance University as we change lives and communities.

Air Traffic Manager: Plenum https://hvacta.com/air-traffic-manager-plenum/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=air-traffic-manager-plenum Fri, 06 Feb 2026 12:36:06 +0000 https://hvacta.com/?p=245470 There are two primary types: the supply plenum, which distributes air from the system to the home, and the return plenum, which pulls air from the home back into the system.

Understanding the basic concepts of air flow, building distribution boxes, and running flex is a must know how to do. HVAC Technical Academy insists all participants are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to design, build, and construct supply plenum.

For those uncertain of the importance and role of plenum, this is for you.

Air Traffic Manager: Plenum

Air Traffic Manager: Plenum

Air Traffic Manager: Plenum

For those uncertain of the importance and role of plenum, this is for you.

An HVAC plenum is a central metal or fiberglass chamber/box connected directly to a furnace or air handler that acts as a distribution hub for conditioned air. It manages air pressure and directs heated or cooled air into the ductwork (supply) or collects return air (return), ensuring efficient airflow throughout a building.

There are two primary types: the supply plenum, which distributes air from the system to the home, and the return plenum, which pulls air from the home back into the system.

In a way, supply and return plenum acts as a “traffic manager” for air, ensuring consistent pressure and temperature regulation.

At our workshop facility, we work with duct board (building boxes), including measuring and cutting, as well as the material use such as flex, mastic, tape, hangers, registers, and much more.

If you enjoy daily challenges, working with your hands, and never a dull moment, the HVAC industry may be a good fit for you and HVAC Technical Academy can get you there in under two months.
