Today we are combining two of my favorite things: pizza and HVAC.

All participants are working hard and handling an appetite to match as this afternoon we will be working with air flow distribution… plenum / return boxes here we come.

HVAC Break Down: Pizza and Learning

Taking advantage of Hungry Howie’s Whacky Wednesday, all got their slices and drinks. My favorite flavor is the Hawaiian (gotta have pineapple) while we ordered six other flavors to feed the need.

When it comes to the learning part, here’s a sketch of what we do at HVAC Technical Academy:
* Fundamentals: understanding refrigeration theory and air conditioning systems
* Technical skills: working with hand tools, brazing, gauges, vacuum/recovery, etc.
* Safety and Compliance: keeping the environment and participants safe… in addition to obtaining their Universal 608 Certification, all also go through OSHA 10 General Industry training
* Diagnostics: from complete system swaps, component replacements, diagnostics, troubleshooting, to performing preventive maintenances

Yesterday the day was filled with rain… not the best day one but then again, the first week is designed to dig deep into understanding HVAC systems, components, and safety. Overall, we were productive on many levels.

HVACTA: Group Day Two Photo and Warm Up

Day two is about development and seamlessly getting into HVAC industry expectations from an employer, client, and technician perspective. In addition we came together as one unified group as the photos detail.

Participants are expected to learn the complete HVAC cycle, including proper procedures for using a dolly to take a condenser off the trailer.

Gotta run as a new system is heading down the road and we need to take it off the trailer, inspect, and ensure all paperwork is correct… yep, we do it all.

All received a unique experience this morning as the group reviewed first-hand knowledge and applications regarding commercial chillers from the Allegiant Air Training Center.

After creative design work, the group completed flex work as not the lab is close to complete. Over the next two weeks we will be troubleshooting and getting down to HVAC hands on basics.

HVACTA – Plenum Progress

Definitely proud of the product given the limitations presented (which was intentional). After all, getting the job done in the most in confined areas makes the job easier when given open spaces. That’s what we do here, make it a challenge and this gives all an advantage.

Over the past two days we have been working on completing three complete system swaps. Today should be the day all systems are up and running… and you know what this means .

HVACTA: System Swap Continues

This means once all are up and ready, we will continue the project by working on air flow; box, flex, and registers will be added on. Naturally once all is resident ready, all will perform troubleshooting and preventive maintenances.

Today was a day to expand hands-on knowledge regarding package units. Taking advantage of a neighboring live system, our group performed like pros.

Ensuring all participants excel in brazing, no matter the conditions and/or angle, each is put to the test daily. Backed by a practice geared of challenge, growth becomes a reality.

HVACTA: Burn Baby Burn

After several hours/days of brazing, all are required to perform in the oddest situations. Often enveloped by cardboard, all practice flame lengths and positions. Truth is, better to burn under a controlled situation than at Mrs. Smith home… don’t you think?
