Facility
Students are to leave the facilities as clean as they found them. Facilities refer not only to the classroom, restrooms, etc., but also the parking lot and driveway as well as the entire grounds.
This facility has a strict “no littering” policy—any trash (from a cigarette butt to empty food and drink container) is to be placed in the provided trash areas.
Students who litter on the premises will accept responsibility for their actions by completing a “extra-curricular” session: a 30-minute period cleaning the area of litter, debris, clutter, etc beyond classroom and lab hours. Each littering incident will result in additional sessions.
Dress Code
Appropriate dress and grooming are probably the most visible and easily gauged components of professionalism. To foster good habits regarding personal appearance, students will attend every class session dressed and groomed for success.
Here, this means business casual. Clothing must be clean and must fit: Pants are to be worn around the waist, not sagging. Students in violation will be sent home if they cannot change clothes to comply.
What to avoid:
- Tank tops, shirts with offensive language or photos (to be determined by facilitator)
- Flip-flops or open-toed shoes for safety precautions
- Any clothing or accessory containing obscene language, alcohol or illicit drug references, sexual content, gang-related material or references, weapons, or any words or imagery that incite or condone violence or hate
- Don’t forget good hygiene: students are to arrive clean, freshly bathed, and free of offensive body odor
For the first week of class or so, instructors may display some leniency with the dress code, but beyond that, students will be held responsible for compliance.
Timekeeping
Punctuality cannot be left up to chance. Being on time is vital to professional success. Policy of being on time here is much like any other professional establishment—students are better served learning this trait here than on the jobsite.
Habits of punctuality and daily responsibility will serve graduates well throughout their working life.
Our attendance policy is modeled on the policies employers typically use. As such, any absence must have documentation (such as a doctor’s note or court summons) to be excused. After two absences, the student will take responsibility for their actions by facing consequences up to and including dismissal from the course and nullification of any diversion program agreement(s).
