HVACTA: Michelle and Mastic

HVACTA: Michelle and Mastic

Though often a forgotten art, cutting duct board, creating a proper supply, and securing all with tape and mastic can be your HVAC Technician advantage.

Mastic Application

HVACTA: Michelle and MasticUncertain how Michelle got mastic on her palm during the application, but let’s not focus on that. Proper duct board, tape, and mastic installation will save homeowners money and possibly health issues.

Breaks in mastic or too thin an application, you will soon recognize:

  • An aesthetically disagreeable area
  • Loss of cooling and higher electricity bills
  • Discoloration (at one point may become mold). This occurs when cool air meets hot air… condensation left alone and without resolve could cause health issues

Little things mean a great deal. Students at HVAC Technical Academy get their hands into just about everything required to be career ready… our students learn by doing.

For those interested in a career ready HVAC Service Technician program, consider HVAC Technical Academy located in Sanford, Florida.

Condenser Breakdown by Hazel

Condenser Breakdown by Hazel

HazelWith the recent hurricane, Hazel received a tree-damaged condenser and was tasked to scrap it all. To do this, Hazel had to recover and secure/torch compressor lines.

On a side note, we take this moment to recognize Hazel as she passed the Universal 608 Certification first try… congratulations are in order!

Condenser Breakdown 101

With tools in hand, Hazel puts to practice:

  • Drills and tools to dismantle unit, starting with covers, blade, and condenser fan motor
  • Recognizing the importance of securing refrigerant, recovery is always performed
  • Closing lines upon completion and readying for the scrap yard

HVACTA: Mastic Application, Art & Functionality

HVACTA: Mastic Application, Art & Functionality

Mastic ApplicationThe importance of mastic applications is key to customer satisfaction and air flow quality. Sarah is practicing proper taping and mastic principles: HVAC Technical Academy is about doing.

Air flow and discoloration

An installation and/or plenum repair is only as good as the technician. An improper tape and mastic repair could cause air leakage and discoloration. To ensure proper tape/mastic application, technicians learn by doing… that’s what we are all about.

Learn by doing… that’s what you will expect and will receive at HVAC Technical Academy. We are currently enrolling for the January 2023 session, but you may want to hurry and apply as class size is limited.
