Job Fair Face

Job Fair Face

Job Fairs are back as companies need to hire, immediately. Next week 2nd Chance University and HVAC Technical Academy will be at two job fair functions.

Represent

In today’s high demand for talent, you have the advantage. Unfortunately, your advantage will be short lived if you do not REPRESENT in a positive way… first impressions begin as you walk toward the table:

  • 20 feet away: the overall picture of who you are and how you match company culture and job atmosphere begins, including how you look, how you walk, are you focused, and how you dress.
  • 10 feet away: the way you approach the table is viewed. If there are people in front of you, are you patient and wait your turn or are you impatient, cut in front of others, or complain about waiting five minutes for an opportunity for a face to face.
  • Job fair face: Attitude is measured face to face as things like attitude, gut feelings, eye contact, and much more tell the interviewer more about you than ever considered. Are you smiling, are you distracted, are you listening, are you focused, and are you for real.

See you soon

    • Monday, April 18th from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm at the Holden Heights Community Center in Orlando
    • Thursday, April 21st from 10:00 am until 2:00 at 101 Sunnytown Road, #103 in Casselberry

      Job Fair and Shoes… Really?

      Job Fair and Shoes… Really?

Monday, April 18th from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm will find 2nd Chance University and HVAC Technical Academy at the Holden Heights Community Center in Orlando for a job fair sponsored by the Florida Department of Corrections.

Thursday, April 21st from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm will also find 2nd Chance University and HVAC Technical Academy job fair present. This time at 101 Sunnytown Road, #103 in Casselberry.

      Shoes: Make Them Fit

Though many take for granted, shoes can be a deal-breaker when it comes to getting a job offer. When it comes to job fair introductions, make them fit!

A few shoe details to consider:

      • No slippers or slides (totally unprofessional and says a great deal about the individual)
      • No open toe shoes and be smart when it comes to tennis shoes
      • Match socks and be sure to be color appropriate (do not use white socks with black slacks – a little common sense here, please)
      • Keep’em clean (enough said?)

Truth is, no one wants to see funky feet, crazy toenails, or dirty shoes.

      Meet and Greet

I encourage everyone to swing by either job fair to check out the many opportunities available in today’s market. Though sponsored by the Department of Corrections, all can benefit by attending.

For additional job fair practice do’s and don’ts, let’s chat at the upcoming job fairs. On this note, share the post and let others know about the job fairs, meeting 2nd Chance University, HVAC Technical Academy, and job fair standards.

      Hope to see YOU there!

      April Job Fair Insight

      April Job Fair Insight

In addition to the Job Fair scheduled for Monday, April 18, 2022 from 2:00PM to 5:00PM at the Holden Heights Community Center, 1201 20th Street Orlando, Florida 32805, a second will also find 2nd Chance University and HVAC Technical Academy present.

      Casselberry Job Fair April 21st

Casselberry will be holding a job fair on the 21st of this month from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at 101 Sunnytown Road, #103. For those who are justice-involved and live in the Sanford/Casselberry, this is the place to be if you are serious about getting a job and/or the tools for success.

      ATTITUDE is EVERYTHING

Getting you a heads-up on job fair etiquette, ATTITUDE is EVERYTHING.

      • Keeping a positive tone and manner is not just what you say but how you say it
      • Nonverbal communication must be always in check. For example, if there is a line of several people in front of you, Do NOT interrupt, complain, or get on your phone, or slouch.
      • Actions speak louder than words… always represent who you are and what you bring to the potential employer positively.

There is much more to consider, and we will review as we approach the first of two April job fairs I hope to see you at.

Share this post and keep others throughout Central Florida in the know and hope to see YOU there!

HVAC Programs: Which IS Right For Me?

HVAC Programs: Which IS Right For Me?

There are several program options to becoming an HVAC Service Technician. Get to know the campus, curriculum/hands-on activities, program length, and career assistance before you make the decision to spend your time, money, and hopes. For today, we’ll take a quick review on these three areas and follow-up with a few more next time.

      Campus Visit

Before making any decisions as to which program is right for you, narrow your search by visiting the campuses you are considering. Things to consider include driving distance, facility distractions, comfortableness (go with your gut on this one), and parking.

      Curriculum Review

Though most HVAC programs are consistent with each other when it comes to curriculum, look for user-and reader friendliness. Make sure the text fits your needs and introduces the basic concepts you will need as an HVAC Service Technician. For a bonus, make sure the program offers personal as well as professional material every day. Employers want soft and personal skills… period.

      Hands-on Activities

Before signing the bottom line, walk through the lab/hands-on portion of the program. Make sure EVERY day offers real-world experiences. Without exception, theory is good, but practice is great. Check out our next blog as a few more considerations will be reviewed.

If you have any questions, feel free to reach out at any time via phone (407-878-0474) or email (info@2ndChanceUniversity.org or info@HVACTA.com).
