S.T.A.R.: Discoloration

S.T.A.R.: Discoloration

HVAC Technicians troubleshoot daily activity. When it comes to deciding the most effective and efficient move, HVAC Technical Academy students examine potentials using the Situation, Task, Action, Resolve problem solving technique.

Hands-On Learning

  • HVAC TA DiscolorationSituation: Examine not just the immediate area, look at the surrounding to gain a complete analysis.
  • Task: What is going on, what is the resident complaining about, what do you need to resolve?
  • Action: After determining the situation and task, what action will you take to resolve. Once the action is weighed and decided upon… time to perform.
  • Result: When all is said and done, was the problem taken care of? At this time, reflect on what you did and what changes could you have made to be more effective.

  • What would your first step be if/when upon approaching a resident looking for answers… recognizing the resident is not happy and wants immediate resolve. Not always an easy fix, HVAC technicians require fast decision-making skills, and this is just part of the equation.

Today at HVAC Technical Academy: Pressure Checking

Today at HVAC Technical Academy: Pressure Checking

Line sets are required to hold pressure. During a system swap, or anytime a system is opened, any fractures in the line will cause refrigerant to leak, which can be quite expensive and uncomfortable for the resident.

Hands-On Learning

HVAC TA Line SetsTechnicians learn by doing… today we reviewed proper brazing techniques in those hard-to-reach places. After checking, the line had a few fractures which needed to be resolved.  HVAC Technical Academy expects all students to know how to braze, how to check pressures, how to vacuum, how to measure microns, and how to troubleshoot.

  • Students shown firsthand nitrogen pressure checking and brazing. Here Andrew goes through the steps to ensure proper resolve.

Today at HVAC Technical Academy: Low Voltage Wiring

Today at HVAC Technical Academy: Low Voltage Wiring

Between system swaps and serving, technicians will be installing, repairing, replacing parts with low voltage wiring to ensure proper operations.

Hands-On Learning

HVACTA Low VoltageTechnicians learn by doing… today was full system swap continuation. The rain prevented completion and start but we did make good progress. Students worked on installing and wiring today as thermostat installation and/or service must be fully understood in the HVAC field.

  • Students examined wiring within the air handler. Look at the wiring, as you can see low voltage wiring involves hands-on practical knowledge.

Today at HVAC Technical Academy: Clogged Drain

Today at HVAC Technical Academy: Clogged Drain

Performing a preventive maintenance (pm) is an essential part of the HVAC service industry. It is recommended every system receive a pm once a year, more if you have lots of pets roaming inside.

Hands-On Learning

HVAC TA Clogged Drain LineUnclogging drain lines sometimes can be a true challenge. Yesterday we had the pleasure of clearing lines and performing preventive maintenances… which will be a continued chore throughout our program.

  • Look at the slime in the photo. Slime causes HVAC systems to stop working as the water will back up, trip your float switch, and trigger the thermostat to turn off.
