At the conclusion of each HVAC program semester, students take their final step toward personal and professional success by way of the 608 Universal EPA exam.

EPA Universal ExamOver the course of each HVAC program, students gain a wealth of hands-on experience, beginning day one and we don’t slow down. About halfway through the program, time is set daily to prepare for the 608 Universal EPA Exam.

Today is the day to put our knowledge to the test while our graduation celebration will be held this Friday evening.

Today students delved deeply into package unit basics. Taking readings, pressures, and performing a full preventive maintenance was conducted by all.

HVAC Career NowThe day began with a quick Universal 608 EPA review and handout but quickly turned attention to hands-on activities. One of the benefits of HVAC Technical Academy is the facility allows students to get down and dirty with in-use equipment such as:

  • Package Unit
  • Air Handler in an attic… fund during the heat of the afternoon
  • Mini-splits

All equipment above is live, no copy cats here. In addition to the live in-use equipment, students work on multiple systems in our lab setting… throw in the amount of tear downs from a constant flow of equipment/part swaps, every day is an adventure.

In today’s photo, technicians are making sure this package unit is operating at maximum capacity. Knowing this system takes care of residents, pressure to do the right job in the right time is essential.

Getting students involved and introduced to required tools in the industry, today we learned what a motor puller can do. Though not used often, the value of such a tool is measurable.

  • Continued brazing techniques as this is a must do-well skill
  • Several air handlers and condensers were disassembled, further activities to acquaint all of what’s inside and terms of the trade all while building confidence
