With a growing number of residents taking advantage of package unit HVAC systems, participants are required to get to know these systems, inside and out. At HVAC Technical Academy, our six-week hands-on workshops includes heat pump systems, straight cool systems, mini-splits, and, of course, package units.

To get you in the know, an HVAC package unit is an all-in-one heating and cooling system contained within a single outdoor cabinet. Unlike the more common “split system,” which has separate indoor and outdoor components, the packaged unit houses the compressor, coils, and air handler in one location. These units are typically installed on a concrete slab next to a house or on a flat rooftop.

Package units are ideal for homes with limited indoor space, such as those without basements or attics, as they eliminate the need for an indoor air handler or furnace.
