Today at HVAC Technical Academy: Pressure Checking

Today at HVAC Technical Academy: Pressure Checking

Line sets are required to hold pressure. During a system swap, or anytime a system is opened, any fractures in the line will cause refrigerant to leak, which can be quite expensive and uncomfortable for the resident.

Hands-On Learning

HVAC TA Line SetsTechnicians learn by doing… today we reviewed proper brazing techniques in those hard-to-reach places. After checking, the line had a few fractures which needed to be resolved.  HVAC Technical Academy expects all students to know how to braze, how to check pressures, how to vacuum, how to measure microns, and how to troubleshoot.

Today at HVAC Technical Academy: Low Voltage Wiring

Today at HVAC Technical Academy: Low Voltage Wiring

Between system swaps and serving, technicians will be installing, repairing, replacing parts with low voltage wiring to ensure proper operations.

Hands-On Learning

HVACTA Low VoltageTechnicians learn by doing… today was full system swap continuation. The rain prevented completion and start but we did make good progress. Students worked on installing and wiring today as thermostat installation and/or service must be fully understood in the HVAC field.

  • Students examined wiring within the air handler. Look at the wiring, as you can see low voltage wiring involves hands-on practical knowledge.

Today at HVAC Technical Academy: Universal EPA Prep and Testing

Today at HVAC Technical Academy: Universal EPA Prep and Testing

HVAC technicians are required to pass the Universal EPA Exam. Without this certification, you, and the company you work for could be subject to a hefty fine.

Hands-On Learning

EPA Universal ExamThough much of our courseware is dedicated to preparing for and taking the Universal EPA Exam, we also recognize the best way of learning comes from doing.  No doubt we practice what we preach!

The photo enclosed highlights one of our students working on the refrigerant line as today we are knee deep in two full system swaps.

Today at HVAC Technical Academy: Package Unit PM

Getting a solid understanding on package units is part of the territory for any HVAC technician.  Today our students performed a complete preventive maintenance on a neighboring package unit.

Hands-On Learning

Technicians learn by doing… this philosophy is what makes HVAC Technical Academy top a first choice for serious students seeking a high demand career.Package PM at HVACTA

Today at HVAC Technical Academy: Clogged Drain

Today at HVAC Technical Academy: Clogged Drain

Performing a preventive maintenance (pm) is an essential part of the HVAC service industry. It is recommended every system receive a pm once a year, more if you have lots of pets roaming inside.

Hands-On Learning

HVAC TA Clogged Drain LineUnclogging drain lines sometimes can be a true challenge. Yesterday we had the pleasure of clearing lines and performing preventive maintenances… which will be a continued chore throughout our program.

Photo

  • Look at the slime in the photo. Slime causes HVAC systems to stop working as the water will back up, trip your float switch, and trigger the thermostat to turn off.

Today at HVAC Technical Academy: Defrost Board

Today at HVAC Technical Academy: Defrost Board

Though defrost boards do not commonly fail, HVAC technicians will be required to test and/or replace them on occasion. Today’s core hands on experience found students actively getting to know defrost boards, what they do, and how to test them.

Hands-On Learning

HVAC TA Defrost BoardToday we had a call from a resident complaining of a chattering contactor and an intermittent problem with her air handler. Within a few moments, the students tested the defrost board, only to find replacement was not needed.

Photo

  • Technicians learn by doing… not by reading. Today students opened an air handler and tested an independent part… a defrost board.
