Hi, my name is Jacqueline. I’m here with HVAC Technical Academy and I will be talking about capacitors. What they are, what what they do and how you and to test them and where they’re at.
So this is a dual run capacitor. If you see on top here, there’s going to be these terminals [snorts] that there’s a common, a herm, and a fan. And these are going to be connected to the herm is for the compressor and the fan is for the condenser fan motor. And what it does basically it just gives a jump start for the condenser fan motor and the compressor.
And they go bad normally due to like power surges or you know because they’re hermetically sealed can’t fix it and just wear and tear. There’s not really a lifespan on them. Just goes bad when it goes bad.
And how to test it is on the microfarads. This one has the range of 70 plus five microfarads and 7.5 range capacity. So we’re going to go to MFD and you’re always going to test common to herm and common to fan. So we’re going to do this. So So we got 66.1. This is good. And 4.8. All right. All right. So, this one’s still pretty good.
Yeah. So, that’s how you test the capacitor. And if your condenser fan motor isn’t working, it’s most likely always going to be your capacitor. Just, you know, wear and tear, power surges, not lifetime guarantee, but yeah. Thank you for watching my videos on capacitors. Play.
