Duwayne Dukes — HVAC Heat Strips
Good afternoon. My name is Duwayne Dukes and welcome to HVAC Technical Academy. And today I would like to talk to you guys about heat strips. Heat strips, one thing that they do for your house and home as well as your AC system is that they provide heat for your home when you call for it when it’s cold outside. They’re found mostly in No, they’re found in straight cool systems as well as your heat pump systems. And they’re always normally located at the air handler section of your AC units. They’re located on top up here. And commonly known faults that happen or commonly known things that happen with your heat strips is you’ll go to turn your heat on and next thing you know you’ll get smoke or you’ll start smelling something burning or smoke coming out of your your vents. And that that is caused from dirt and debris from the air flow coming up on your heat strip and it builds up on these coils. And all these coils do is pretty much get hot when you call for heat and it passes the air right over these coils and they come out as heated air in your home.
And just like I was saying, those coils will build up dirt, dust, and once you go to turn them on, these coils get very hot and it burns off that dust and turns it into smoke. Now also I would like to show you how we can test and how these are replaced. Heat strips when they do go bad in the chance, there’s four screws holding them up inside of your air handler. Those just screw out and your heat strip is able to come out as such. And then also to test for heat strips I take my voltmeter, set it to continuity. And we want to test if we get power through it. And as you see this one has continuity. You know breaks in the line. And that is your heat strips. And then with this one I test it for continuity. Oh, that one. That one actually came on. Test it this one that came tested bad at first, but now that’s also a good heat strip as well. And then it goes back in your air handler just as such.
Four screws on both sides. That’s your heat strip. Thank you for watching this video. I’m Duwayne. See you next time.
